Pierre is the capital of South Dakota. The building is open for self-guided tours.

On the east side of the Capitol is Capitol Lake. The walking trail provides peaceful views as well as beautiful memorials to the armed services and to emergency professionals. Some of this is what’s showing to the left of the Capitol in our picture.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas is when you’ll find Christmas at the Capitol filling the air in the building. Usually there are around 100 live Christmas trees on display, decorated by South Dakotans.
